The Cochise College Sierra Vista Art Department will be hosting its second Bowl-A-Thon of the year from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, in conjunction with the Pottery Studio at Sierra Vista to make more bowls for Empty Bowls, a project that raises money for local food pantries, shelters, banks and kitchens.

The Bowl-A-Thon is free and open beginners or veteran potters. Participants will make as many bowls as they can on the potter’s wheel and by hand-building, as well as work on decorating the bowls made during the college-hosted Bowl-A-Thon this summer.

The annual Empty Bowls Project fundraiser is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Ethel Berger Center in Sierra Vista. Those who make a donation of $10 or more receive a handcrafted bowl, and all proceeds will be donated to food banks around Cochise County.

Potters have been making bowls to donate throughout the year and Empty Bowls Project organizers hope to have at least 2,000 bowls donated toward the October fundraiser.
